Chief Investment Officer, Aquila Capital

Markus is the Chief Investment Officer of Aquila Capital Invest. Aquila Capital is a leading investor in sustainable energy and energy transition infrastructure assets with total Assets under Management and near-term pipeline assets in excess of EUR 15bn. A 74.9% stake in Aquila Capital Invest was acquired by Commerzbank AG in June 2024. 

Markus has over 25 years of professional experience in principal investments in renewable energy and private equity. Markus started his career in investment banking with HSBC and Bank of America in London before joining RWE Innogy in 2008, heading corporate development and M&A for renewable energy and, among other, leading RWE’s first at-scale transactions in offshore wind. In 2014, Markus joined Mayfair Vermögensverwaltung SE, one of the largest family-offices in Germany as an Investment Director. During his tenure, he was a board member of DNV in which role he was leading the successful divestment for the family office. Prior to joining Aquila Capital in 2022, he was a Partner at Pollination Group in London. Markus holds a university degree in Business Administration from the Philipps-Universität in Marburg and visiting scholar at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
